ABOUT CAILLOUX
Cheese lovers!
I’m Janelle Norman, owner and cheesemonger at Cailloux Cheese Shop. My favorite cheese fluctuates with my mood, but as I write this profile I would say it is "Ossau-Iraty," the acclaimed Franco-Basque sheep's milk cheese. I decided to open a cheese shop in Solvang after multiple stints of working in the food industry as a cheesemonger, prep cook, butcher's apprentice, wine tasting room associate, etc.. I knew my passion for cheese, wine, and charcuterie was directing me down the path of founding my own shop one day. Now, after finishing graduate school in geology (my love of rocks, pebbles, and terroir) and with the support and encouragement of my husband, Bryan, our new baby William, our dog, Cailloux, and our families, I hope to create a new staple in the Santa Ynez community for residents and visitors alike to experience new pleasures and find artisanal products they won't be able to live without!

Why “Cailloux”?
Cailloux, the French word for pebble (pronounced "kai-you"), is our black lab-boxer dog. His love of life, fetch, brioche (unapproved), and his family along with his ambitious can-do-anything attitude, are an inspiration for our cheese shop (and our lives).
